The Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA)

The Employee Retirement Income Security Act, otherwise known as ERISA, is a federal law that was passed to protect pension rights.  The Act, passed in 1974, sets the minimum standards for pension plans in private industry and guarantees that pension rights cannot be unfairly denied or taken from a worker.
